Shalom in the spirit- your spirit! May fullness of being and experience joy to fill your life!
In western culture, what cannot be measured by the five senses is not considered legitimate. The ability to measure the human spirit by outside sources is not widely known. So many people aren’t aware of the power and influence of their spirit in their lives.
Hence we all have spirits. Native cultures may recognize everything in creation has a spirit. Interestingly, the human spirit is unique to connect with its creator. Spirituality is widespread throughout the world. Indeed every people and culture has developed spiritual practice through religions. So one can’t deny that our spiritual capacity is essential to our quality of life.
But I am not giving you the idea that religious practice equals existing with purpose. I want to share with you the importance of being aware of your spirit and the important part it can play in your life. You may have met people who are “spirited”. This description may picture one who is not worried about conforming to society’s norm or one who is impulsive and creative.
As a matter of fact there is problems with the lack of involvement with one’s spirit. Evidence of these issues are the problems that can’t be solved or remedied by traditional medicine or treatment. The impossible problems. The mental and strange problems. Correspondingly if issues cycle through one’s life without the power to beat them, there’s a good chance the root of the issue is spiritual.
Where did this idea come from about humans having a spirit? Isn’t that the soul?
The soul is defined as many things. But scripturally speaking, the soul translates “nephesh” and spirit translates “ruach”. They are two different things- ideas. By the same token the Hebrew language is skilled at connecting spiritual ideas with the tangible things in life.
Soul-*Strong’s H5315/ Benner 2424- is the whole of a person: the body, breath and mind.
Spirit- *Strong’s H7307/ Benner 1445- is the breath or wind of man or God, a literal picture of a path (wind follows a path) and “man outside”.
The spirit is just that- a spirit whose reality is different from the body’s reality. The spirit understands spiritual matters and the soul understands worldly matters. The two different realities can cause a conflict within oneself. In addition culture and family norms also play into the how well one understands how the soul and spirit work together within.
Maybe as a young child you did something in innocence and got in trouble for it. If your spirit was leading this act, then you may have decided the spirit’s voice caused you trouble. Judging the spirit in this way can reject your spirit’s voice from your soul’s voice. Consequently this schism results in your growth to rely heavily on the soul’s interpretation of life without the spirit.
Shalom in the spirit
Shalom is Hebrew and means “nothing broken and nothing missing”. Experiencing shalom requires all the parts of you to be functional and in relationship with each other. If you don’t have an awareness and relationship with your spirit, then your shalom is not complete.
