The Community Within- You

The Community Within- You. Do you talk to yourself? You have good reason to do so. There are many voices within your self. If this is a new ideas to you, consider your soul and your spirit. Have you ever had a hard time making a decision? When within you, there are two ideas or perspectives that are competing with one another?

These two ideas each have a value system. These different values are still a part of you. In my article, Shalom in the spirit, I wrote:

“In western culture, what cannot be measured by the five senses is not considered legitimate. The ability to measure the human spirit by outside sources is not widely known. So many people aren’t aware of the power and influence of their spirit in their lives.
Hence we all have spirits. Native cultures may recognize everything in creation has a spirit. Interestingly, the human spirit is unique to connect with its creator. Spirituality is widespread throughout the world. Indeed every people and culture has developed spiritual practice through religions. So one can’t deny that our spiritual capacity is essential to our quality of life.”

According to Arthur Burk, they’re seven portions of our spirits. Seven. That’s seven possible voices- perspectives. He has thoroughly studied the subject and I have to personally agree to his findings. Connecting with my spirit has opened a whole new world for me. Indeed there is a community within.

There are seven major portions of our spirit within you, each serving a purpose, yet being all interconnected. Did you know the bible mentions the spirit in many Psalms? However, Romans 12: 6-8 speaks of seven gifts: Prophet, servant, teacher, exhorter, giver, ruler, and mercy. These gifts are also names of each portion of our spirit. This pattern of sevens in scripture describes characteristics of each spirit portion and creates a personality picture. Consequently, each portion of the spirit is an integral part of our personality.

Connecting with your spirit improves the quality of your life spiritually and enriches your physical senses. Firstly, Here is a free introduction to these gifts- called the redemptive gifts. Understanding the redemptive gift picture created by the patterns of 7 is an incredible way to get to know yourself and others!

Below are the list of gifts and a basic description:

Prophetstrength | understanding the design principle- weakness | too black/white, can’t get justice

Servant- strength | understanding authority- weakness | not valuing their own work or minimizing their self

Teacher- strength | understanding responsibility- weakness | being too rigid with ideas

Exhorter- strength | understanding reality- weakness | not breaking out of comfort to grow

Giver- strength | understanding stewardship through giving- weakness | control and stinginess

Ruler strength | understanding freedom- weakness | being manipulative

Mercy- strength | seeing the value in a person & benefit of being merciful- weakness | self-gratification & taking the easy road

I talk further about the seven portions of the spirit here.

Another amazing perspective is the parts of the heart. Hebrew word for heart is “לֵב”, Strong’s 3820 which defines leb/ lev as “inner man, mind, will, heart”. Using the Hebrew pictograph, Benner defines “לֵב” as the authority within. Some define the heart as the mind, will, and emotions.

Furthermore Father Andrew Miller describes the heart as having four core parts with individual and unique perspectives. The true self, function, guardian, and emotion. Using these roles of the heart, one can become aware of the voices within. His ministry, HeartSync Ministries use these concepts to offer a way to connect with God and his healing.

Heart Sync Ministries defines the core parts as:

  • True Self: The aspect of the heart and mind that has the capacity to connect most strongly with God. (Primarily associated with the Pre-Frontal Cortex.)
  • Function: The aspect of the heart and mind that does the daily functioning of life and often stays disconnected from painful memory. (Primarily associated with the Left Hemisphere.)
  • Emotion: The aspect of the heart and mind that is most closely connected to pain, trauma, and unresolved emotions. (Primarily associated with the Right Hemisphere.)
  • Guardian: The aspect of the heart and mind that believes the Emotion and Function parts of the heart must be kept apart, or else the Function part will be too overwhelmed to do any daily functioning—and so is devoted to keeping them apart. (Primarily associated with the Amygdala.)

So many voices! How to make sense of it all! To further comprehend your inner self, there are some easy ways to talk to yourself. Ask binary questions- ones that answer- yes or no. To find out more, click here!
